Gibney’s Engagement programming centers around three main priorities: School Programs, Moving Toward Justice initiatives and Artist Services. We acknowledge the ever-shifting overlaps between the roles of teacher and student as we cultivate a sense of life-long learning manifested as both catalyzing action and revealing what’s already there. We connect confidence and curiosity and navigate ever closer to revealing a balance between structure and choice, abstraction and embodiment, the individual and the collective. In a world that socializes us to hierarchically separate and label, we interrupt that default patterning by valuing the generative meeting points across dualities. Stewarded by Director Amy Miller, Gibney’s Engagement initiatives value a sense of reciprocity through learning exchanges in NYC and around the world. Applications open in January and close in April. NYC Summer Study provides dancers with an immersive experience in the NYC dance community over four weeks in June and July. Applications open in October and close in December. NYC Winter Study provides dancers with an immersive experience in the NYC dance community over two weeks in early January. In-Person at Gibney’s two Manhattan locations, these programs are designed to build a supportive network and community, expose students to new and challenging ideas and movement styles, and share preparatory tools for building a sustainable career in the performing arts.
